That was a difficult but rewarding week in Spain!
Upon arriving at Aragon (finally after flight delays!) on Wednesday to check out the FIM MiniGP World Series, Jackson was struck with what was first suspected as food poisoning or exposure to a food allergen. He was so sick that by Thursday he could barely walk and lost significant fluid.
All efforts were made to hydrate and support Jackson and by Friday afternoon he managed the final two sessions of the practice day at Navarra, in preparation for the penultimate round of the MIR Finetwork Texking Series.
In Q1 Jackson made his way feeling the bike and track, finishing 21st on the timing sheet despite the nausea. Later Saturday, Jackson found some energy for 16th fastest, setting himself up for a start from 17th on the grid on race day. Jackson then slept for 3 hours straight before waking for a pre-race evening pasta dinner.
Come race day, Jackson launched from 17th and made his way to 13th before some back and forth race battles for a 15th place finish in R1.
In R2 Jackson found some good pace dropping into the 2:16 laps, and a PB for the weekend. In a mature reading of race tactics, Jackson punched the final lap and moved from 15th to 12th in the final sectors.
Overall, it was a roller coaster of a week, but each MIR event is yet another building block for the future. Jackson demonstrated his determination, resilience and focus. He applied amazing skills with his braking and race IQ when fighting for positions and improved his series standings to 17th overall. It was a great comeback after the Fortuna round and the bout of illness in the lead up to Navarra.
In a special highlight, Jackson was honoured to meet with @chicholorenzo. There are exciting times ahead!
We thank everyone for their support, we are very grateful and humbled.
